My 2 New Pets - Free Choice

I was so excited because... I was getting 2 new rabbits!

It was still lockdown so we had to do zero contact pick up. They are so small and cute! My Dad says that they are only 7 months old, they are babies. We spent the day building a small house for them and I was the one who had to take care of them, I was grateful for that! I went outside and onto the driveway to pick out some grass for them to eat. Here is a picture of them inside a box:

I called the one with the black nose Oatmeal, and the one with the white nose Lettuce.

We have finished the outside of the mini house and we made a mini cage as well, so we can put then in the backyard for them to play. I'm pretty sure one is a girl and the other is a boy. We got them for $20 each and I think it was worth it!

They mostly eat fresh greens and fruits, so my mum leaves the spares from her cooking to give to the rabbits to eat. They love it! I let them out of the cage almost twice a day. We even gave them a small blanket!

Bye bloggers! See you next blog!

Lockdown Reflections - Learning In Lockdown

Today one of our lockdown tasks was to write a couple of paragraphs about the lockdown and how you feel. Here is my writing:

Introduction - How does your typical day look during lockdown?

Paragraph 1 - What are you grateful for (makes you happy) during this lockdown?

Paragraph 2 - What are you finding difficult during this lockdown?

Paragraph 3 - What can you do to improve your lockdown experience?

Conclusion - Based on your experiences, what advice would you give others to improve their lockdown experiences?

My day starts by me waking up and realising there is still half an hour before the google zoom starts. I rush to get ready, feed the rabbits, eat breakfast and then I arrive 10 minutes early. I do something fun while I wait for the Google Zoom/Meet (Ms Corbett jokes about that) to start and all of a sudden, I remember I forgot to turn off Minecraft, so it makes these weird noises. I listen to Ms Corbett and then I do some of my work. Then I take a break and continue until it is lunchtime.

I am grateful as this lockdown gives me time do do lots of homework on time and I do get 1 hour of free time at night before bed. I get to watch videos as well and I play with my new pet rabbits. I help Dad build a mini house for them and I help pick out some grass for them to eat. This lockdown does give me free sleep as well so I can sleep in and be ready in 10 minutes without walking for 5 minutes to school. Sometimes in the weekends we watch movies and play games, and dinner is the BEST part about all of the days in lockdown. We eat homemade food and it is DELICIOUSO! I sometimes help Mum make bread and yesterday we made hand-made noodles as well! Today at lunch my mum will make the noodles followed with beef and soup and potatoes. It’s quite yummy!

Things I don’t like about lockdown is that I miss having fun with my friends, although we can play online, but not often. It’s sometimes hard to chat online and sometimes you lag online. I miss exercising at school and I miss playing and being active outside. It feels kinda boring being stuck at home and you don’t have anyone to play with, unless you have siblings that annoy you 🙄. At least I got rabbits that don’t annoy you. And I do play Roblox and Minecraft with my friends.

I think I can improve this lockdown experience by asking friends to online chat with me, play games and all that. I hope my Mum and I can make good recipes and I want to try building something out of wood. It does feel good having free time but sometimes it can be boring, so I might make use of that time. When I finish, I can choose between Prodigy, or piano playing. I usually chose Prodigy as it is fun but sometimes when you engage, then it is lunchtime. PS we do get to buy fruits and vegetables online and my Mum bought my favourite kind of fruit, longan!

I suggest you guys make yourselves comfortable at home as we are going to be stuck in our homes for like 2 million years (according to Nicole’s mind). I hope everyone stays safe and be sure to exercise at home, or else you will become a lazy-bone!

I hope you like my writing! Bye bloggers!

Te Reo Speakpipe Practice - Learning In Lockdown

 Today one of our distant learning tasks were to do a Speakpipe practice on pronouncing the words;

Potiki,

Waenga,

Matamua,

Manawaroa,

Auahatanga.

It was kinda tongue twisting at first but then I got the hang of it.

Here are the links to my pronunciation: PotikiWaengaMatamuaManawaroaAuahatanga.

My Poetry Exploration Slide - Learning In Lockdown

Hi guys today I will be showing you my poetry Exploration slide! Here it is. Hope you guys like it!

There are poems in it and it was really fun to make. It took some time to make the diamante poem since I didn't really know what a diamante was, I tried by best and comment if you guys like it, thanks! Bye bloggers!

Coding in Minecraft - Free Choice

Yesterday I was doing coding class and I heard that we were using Minecraft Education Edition to code. I was super excited because we were gonna use the agent to help us build and destroy blocks. Here is some of the code we did (BTW I am using Python code.):

def greeting():
player.say("hello Nicole")
player.on_chat("hi", greeting)

This is the code we started with. When we type in the chat "hi", it will say "hello Nicole". You can change the name but just be aware to not make the 2 words 'greeting' different. Here is what it should look like:
There are many types of code names such as Javascript, C, C++, Python, Ruby etc... I am using Python and we made lots of commands to make the agent move, spin around and even check the id of a block! Each block has an id such as:
Stone = 1
Cobblestone = 4
Oak Wood Planks = 5
Sand = 12
And so and so...

You can copy paste the code and try it out yourself!
Bye Bloggers! See you on the next blog!

Name Art - Learning In Lockdown

Today one of our tasks was to create some art using your own name. My name is Nicole and I drew my name inside a turtle, my name with patterns all over it and my name in cute handwriting. Here is my art:

I think doing name art is cool because you get to choose what kind of design you want to do and it lets your mind be creative. I added patterns all over my name because it looks cute and it has that arty effect on it.

I recommend you do this aswell! Just search up some ideas on how to do name art and then copy it with your name. Bye bloggers!

Cooking - Free Choice

Hi bloggers! Today I made lunch for my mum. We made this because we didn't really have anything simple to eat so we cooked some things. We had seaweed, eggs, steamed pork ribs and rice with sauce.

I made the eggs myself by preheating the cooker and putting oil in it. I cracked 2 eggs into the cooker and flipped them over when one side was cooked. It tasted delicious! Here is a photo of the lunch:

My mum loved it! She was VERY full after that!

My mum helped put the pork ribs into the steamer and she cooked some rice aswell. It was delicious! You can try it at home too! It was fun making this since I wasn't very experienced with cooking.
Bye bloggers, talk to you again soon!

My Drawings - Learning In Lockdown

Last week there was a website called watadventure and Ms Corbett told us we could use that website to do some drawing. There were multiple combinations such as a ghost eating toast, a turtle taking a nap etc. Here are my drawings:

I did cat eating toast, rabbit running really fast, slug driving a fancy car, hippo reading a book, jellyfish gardening, monkey in space, turtle taking a nap, ghost rollerskating and polar bear eating noodles. It's really fun free drawing!

Tabby Cat - Free Choice

Hey guys today I will be telling you about the chrome extension Tabby Cat. You can install it in the chrome web store and it's very cool to have it. This is what it looks like:

You will be able to see it when you open a new tab. There are lots of different cats and you can even change animals and get rewarded goodies. There are many types of goodies such as coffee cup, beach ball, fish bowl, snorkel etc. Here is an example of all the goodies you can get, if you click on the bag, it will drop and there will be goodies. You will be rewarded goodies sometimes when you open new tabs or refresh:

There are different types of animals if you click on the mini house on the top left corner. You can equip the tabby cat, lil doggo, tuxedo birb, wild kitty, bear cub, tortoise, classical doggo, chicken birb, squishy seal, bunny rabbit and tubby piggy. They are really cute and this is my favourite animal with goodies on:

It's just too cute!
I hope you like it! It's absolutely free, just search up Tabby Cat and you can find it. Bye bloggers!

Number Knowledge Test - Before Lockdown

Last week there were 2 school days before lockdown - Monday and Tuesday. We had a reliever inside our classroom to help us with the tasks Ms Corbett sent us. We had to do a test based on Number Knowledge. There were quite a lot of pages to do so we did the first 2 pages.

They were quite easy for me because it was Stage 3 and 4 maths. They tested us on basic facts, subtraction and other things. We had 2 minutes to do the Stage 3 test and 4 minutes to do the Stage 4 test.

I got 20/20 on the first test and 40/40 on the second test. It was quite simple like 7 + 7 and half of 12. I helped the teacher with the timer as well and I finished way before the timer ended. They were quite fun! Here is an example of the questions we did:

Lockdown Activities - Free Choice

Today I was at home doing activities and I thought about doing some art. I used tape on white paper and made some shapes. I carefully coloured them in and here is the result:

It wasn't the best but at least it wasn't the worst, some parts of the paper kind of ripped. I thought this was really fun to make and it does take some time so just be patient. I just got inspired and decided to try this at home. You could try it too!

You need - Paper, tape, any sort of colouring object (paint & brushes, crayon, pastel, colouring pencils, markers)

Here are the steps on how to do it:

First step: Put some tape onto the paper, whether it is going straight, crooked or diagonal and make random shapes (keep the tape straight though!)

Second step: Colour the boxes in one by one with different colours (the tape is there if you accidentally go over the border) (Try not to use chicken scratching / Go 1 direction when you are colouring in)

Third step: Slowly peel the tape off (it's okay if it rips a bit) and voila! You made the art!

My Character - Learning In Lockdown

Today one of our tasks was to create characters of your own using Watadventurers. Here are the characters I made:

I decided to give them some personality.

Girl:
Name: Grace
Age: 14 years old
Culture: Kiwi / New Zealand
Hobbies: Reading, sports, gaming, mathematics, science, computer / robotics.
Personality: Kind, loves learning, is sporty, smart, has lots of friends.

Boy:
Name: Jay
Age: 16
Culture: Kiwi / New Zealand
Hobbies: Basketball, gaming, computer / robotics, science, writing, studying.
Personality: Kind, sporty, strong, popular, journalist, lots of friends.

I designed the girl like this because she looks sporty and kind(she kind looks like me as well!), I like her style and the personality suits her.I designed the boy like this because I thought about how he would act in a book and what he would do.
I like doing these activities! These are really fun and it helps with showing my creativity.

My Minecraft House - Free Choice

Today I will be showing you my house I built in Minecraft Education Edition. I did not use anything like Youtube or social media, I simply put my mind to work. Here are some of the things I put in my house:

I like playing Minecraft Education edition!

Here is a picture of my house:

Balancing Challenge - Learning In Lockdown

It all suddenly just happened...
The thing everyone doesn't want... LOCKDOWN!!!
Auckland moved into Alert Level 4 and we suddenly had to stay home and not go to school.

It started in the morning on Wednesday and everyone was indoors, chilling out at home. On Thursday, we got some online tasks that included a balancing challenge. You had to balance two forks with a coin onto a glass cup. I succeeded and the result is the picture on the top right corner. It was hard to balance at first but then when I used a 50 cent coin, it started to balance on the tip of the cup. I was astonished! I love these challenges and I would really like to do some more! I sure hope lockdown ends early, I miss my friends!

Quality Blog Posts.

Today we did a cyber-smart activity. Here is my work:

Scratch - Learning How to Make a Flying Object.

Today we used Scratch to make a flying object. I followed the tutorials and made a flying cat going through the jungle. Here is the link to it, copy paste it into the address box! https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/560839072/

I think doing these are fun and I would love to do this next time!

Reading - Reading/Comprehension Cards

Today we did reading. We used reading cards and read stories and answered questions. I read the story Pasta Disaster! There were questions such as:

What does 'signature dish' mean?

Why are safety officers required at this type of event?

How would icing sugar 'unite the dish'?

I like reading stories and I think it's fun!

The story was about a boy who loved cooking. He wanted to get into the Junior Chef competition, so he auditioned and tried his best. He failed to cook a meal for the judge but the judge said that he tried his best and encountered failure, that's what a real cook does. The boy got into the competition and was very happy at the end.

Hockey - Free Choice

In the past few weeks we have been practicing some hockey skills in school. We went out to the astro turf and paired up. We practiced dribbling, pushing the ball and getting control of it. I think I have improved in hockey and I learnt how to control the ball with pace.

Maths - Making Statements

Today Ms Corbett gave us this picture, we made statements about it.

This table shows what people have been buying and what people have not been buying each decade.

First statement: This image shows me that LP records started being sold in the 60s (1960) and stopped being sold in the 90s (1990).

Second statement: Buzzy bee started being sold in the 90s (1990) and only lasted for 10 years! They stopped being sold in the 00s (2000).

I like doing statements and I think it helps for the future if you want to become a lawyer.

Tokyo Olympics 2020 - Valerie Adams Gets Bronze Medal in Shot-put

On the 1st of August, I was watching the Olympics at home. I was watching the shot-put, heats, long-jump and hammer-throw. There were many people who were competing, including Valerie Adams and  Maddison-Lee Wesche from New Zealand.  China came first in the Shot-put, USA came second and New Zealand came third. I think New Zealand did very good!
